CONTAMINATED RUNWAY

(1) Definition of Wet Runway: A runway is considered  “wet” when there is sufficient moisture on the surface to appear reflective, but. without  significant areas of standing water.  A runway surface that appears darkened by residual moisture (damp runway) shall not be considered wet or contaminated except as outlined below.

(2) Definition of Contaminated
Runway: A runway is considered
to be contaminated when more than 25% of the runway surface area (whether in isolated areas or not)
within the required length and
width being used, is covered by –

(a) surface water more than 1/8th
inch (3mm) deep, or;

(b) slush or loose snow equivalent
to more than 1/8th inch (3mm) of
water or;

(c) compacted snow or wet ice.

(3) The Flightcrew shall, prior to any takeoff or landing, determine the
status (dry, wet, or contaminated)
of the runway surface using weather reports or forecasts,or, by personal observation of the runway to be used.
